Norwich win, panic buttons, Rachel Stevens and Tony Pulis' peaked cap

Cardiff 2 Norwich 4

 panic button

Firstly, in the words of Corporal Jones, ‘don’t panic.’

Do not press the Tony Pulis button just yet.

Well not just yet.

This was excruciating, on par with being waterboarded whilst being forced to watch Eastenders. Like having a date with Rachel Stevens and finding you have turned up at the wrong restaurant, in the wrong city.

Ok, maybe it was worse.

Even this (almost) gratuitous pic of Rachel Stevens doesn't cheer me up.

First half you are thinking, hey this all works. We are better than the top team in the Championship. It could just happen.

Then we lose Fabio, Norwich step up the pace and we are static and cumbersome whilst the green and yellow jerseys pass the ball effortlessly about us.

People will rightly point out that Declan John was given no support on the left. Macheda went AWOL leaving Declan exposed. In fact Macheda wasn’t too bright in the first half but he did link up well with Fabio. The rest of the defence seemed at times to be at panic stations, out of position and static as speedy Norwich whisked the ball into our area whenever they pleased.

Has Cameron Jerome ever seemed more determined?

Result is that we slide from 2-0 up to 2-2 and looking as helpless as a puppy on ice.

We need goals, we need the front line to hold the ball. So Solskjaer takes off two strikers and puts on a holding midfielder and one striker. Eh?

Kenwynne Jones was looking a bit rattled out there but he was still capable of hurting Norwich. Pilkington drifted in and out of the match. A little more industry and he would be fine but today he only registered a few times.
Panic Button: What to do in an emergency abroad

So obviously with just a single striker and no one to run at Norwich, Cardiff City found themselves permanently on the back foot without an outlet. The manager blocked off all exit routes bar the long ball to Kenwynne who by now was watching the game on the bench.

Now I am no footballing genius. Honest. Manchester Utd didn’t interview me before offering the job to deGaal. Nor were the folk around me considered for any football management jobs but we were scratching our heads. By the time we were 2-3 down we needed Daehli, surely? We needed pace and someone who could hold the ball, someone who could take it away from the beleaguered defence for a few minutes.

I supported the appointment of Ole and still with all my heart wish him well, but right now I am worried. The results so far have varied from being good,  say Wigan, Huddersfield, Norwich first half, to being determined and strong, Fulham, Blackburn to unlucky, Wolves. So not disastrous.

But Ole needs some good results. Something exciting. A couple of away wins maybe. If by the end of October we are still a middle of the table championship side then it is time to say thank you and seek an alternative. We cannot afford to wait longer.

Maybe Ole should get a peaked cap - a blue one obviously.

Time and Cardiff City fans wait for no man.
